… speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. — Ephesians 4:15 (NIV)
At times, we feel stuck in place spiritually. God seems distant. At other times, we sense God’s Spirit alive and at work, perhaps heightening our sense of the holy or making us restless. A desire to go deeper, to draw closer to God, stirs us. As people with free will, we have agency to respond to this stirring. Frederick Buechner writes, ”Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery that it is… touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it…” The holy meaning of life is found in Jesus Christ. A loving God invites us to become like Jesus in heart, mind, soul, and strength. At Upper House, we explore historically rich and creative avenues to grow in character and understanding, secure and assured in God’s faithfulness. We grow through prayer, Scripture reading, classic writings, and community conversations, thankful for formative tools that uplift the soul and provide much-needed insight.
