Leveraging Technology and Theology – A Workshop for Pastors and Ministry Leaders

April 11 @ 10:30 AM - 1:00 PM CDT / $10

  • This event has passed.

Are you a pastor or ministry leader walking a technological tightrope? Everywhere you look—across culture and the church—technology is being leveraged to achieve individual and organizational ends. But your view of technology is complex; you have questions about how to use it responsibly. What factors do you need to consider? What are the pros and cons? …So many questions. It would help to have a bigger picture of technology’s roles and impacts, a framework for sifting and winnowing the true promise and implications of its use.

Join us for a thought-provoking workshop with John Dyer, author, technologist, and theologian. During three 30-minute lectures and lunch, we will delve into technology, its use and influence in the Church, society, and community—

  • Technology and the Church: From biblical antiquity to the birth of megachurches and digital platforms, we’ll examine how technology has shaped expressions of faith over millennia, including through online worship and the emergence of digital sacraments.
  • Technology and Society: Culture and society have always been influenced by technology and vice-versa. We will consider technology’s widespread influence in and across societies—from nations and peoples to institutions and mores—and the complex results.
  • Technology and Community: As the Secular Age has taken hold, technology has affected our concepts of community, individualism, and family. We will reflect on how technology continues to rapidly advance and shape our immediate realm, from the nuclear family to friendships, and explore pathways to fostering authentic community in a digital age.

Reserve your spot for this timely workshop and lunch as we seek to discern, with integrity, the value and limits of leveraging technology to serve our congregations and the Kingdom of God.

$10 / includes snacks and lunch
